Coun. Cameron Stolz's effort to find a different location for the emergency operations centre hit a roadblock on Monday night. Mayor Dan Rogers raised procedural concerns, contending council would have to rescind a decision last month to continue the process of bringing a new Prince George RCMP detachment to the corner of Fourth and Victoria. In response, Stolz withdrew a notice of motion but said he'll raise the issue when the project is back before council, likely in September when a firmer cost estimate is expected to be ready. As it stands, the new detachment is estimated to cost $46 million. Instead of including the EOC in that project, Stolz is suggesting it be located either on city-owned land next door to the North District RCMP detachment on Fifth near Ospika, or at the corner of 22nd and Ospika, which is owned by the Fraser-Fort George Regional District. As it stands, he said the current proposed location is next to a provincial highway where dangerous goods are transported, and within 400 metres of the First Avenue rail yard. Putting it in a different location will free up an additional 24 surface parking stalls at Fourth and Victoria, and the best locations for radio coverage are at Fifth and Ospika and at 22nd and Ospika.
