Re:Student academic excellence deserves recognition (Neil Godbout column, June 26).
Thank you to Neil Godbout for his column. His words are exactly those of any Southridge parent I have talked to since the announcement that they would be taking away honour roll and principal's list designations next year.
Life is competitive and if we are trying to keep that from our kids, they will be in for a surprise once they leave elementary school.
I know there are kids who try very hard and can never quite make the honour roll. However, when I was at the awards ceremony at Southridge, I noticed they do have an award for work ethic and I think this award should be just as important as the honour roll and principal's list.
Kids who are not receiving a work ethic, honour roll or principal's list award are probably not going to work any harder when these awards are taken away, so this new policy really only affects and is disappointing to the kids who work hard in school already.
