The discovery of what may be evidence of a sasquatch near Moricetown has caught the eye of a local expert.
Leo Selzer says the photos of very large footprints posted on a website by fellow sasquatch researcher Brian Vike "hardly do justice to what you look at in real life," but are similar to what he's come across.
"The measurements coincide, the stride coincides, the general physical appearance of the footprints coincides with other evidence that I have found," Selzer said.
Vike, who lives in Houston and is also a UFO enthusiast, drove out to Moricetown, about 430 km. west of Prince George, after receiving an e-mail from someone who came across the footprints on Monday morning after strange noises were heard out in the dark the evening before.
Along with taking the photos, Vike collected some samples of blood and hair that he plans to send off for testing.
After a handful of strange encounters over the years, particularly in the Gregg Creek area, Selzer is now convinced the creature is more than mythical.
He has set up his own web site, www.sasquatch-pg.net, to share his knowledge and collect stories from others more reluctant to tell them to others for fear of getting strange looks in return.
Vike's sasquatch website is found at http://bigfoot-sasquatch.blogspot.com.
Selzer maintains people have come across sasquatches and did not even know it, incorrectly identifying them as bears. There have been times when it's been the other way around.
"I've had people come to me and say 'hey, look, I've just photographed some tremendous sasquatch footprints, come and take a look at them,' and they've turned out to be very large grizzly bear tracks," Selzer said.
What's the difference between a grizzly track and a sasquatch track?
A lack of claw marks is a good first sign it's not a bear, but Selzer added a sasquatch footprint resembles a small child's.
"You know how the foot of a four-year-old child is kind of boxy looking and from the big toe to the little toe it doesn't have as much of a slant as an adult's? That's very much what a sasquatch footprint looks like," Selzer said.
Contrary to popular belief, the size of a sasquatch print can be as little as four to five inches long in the case of the youngsters old enough to walk, although the large males' are as much as 18 inches and 16 inches in the case of the females.
They are very family oriented, Selzer added, so the footprints are can be found in groups of various sizes although the young adults without mates often travel alone.
What's the difference between a human footprint and a sasquatch's?
"Sasquatches don't have an arch," he said. "They have additional joints within the foot so they have a flat foot that's capable of wrapping around things better than the human foot with an arch."
However, they're still a far cry from an ape or chimpanzee.
"Sasquatches are not able to grab things with their foot anymore than a human," he said.
Because of job commitments, Selzer hasn't been able to get out to search for more evidence but when he gets the chance he plans to establish contact with a family he believes is roaming around the Gregg Creek area.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside. Look out, he's fuzzy, let's get out of here. -Mitch Hedburg.

Bigfoot is on the loose because they killed the Kokanee Ranger. It's everyone's fault for voting to have him killed.

Nobody is safe now...

I've known both Brian and Leo after having my sighting back in 04 and I can tell you firsthand this amazing animals are there the problem is they're so far a few between that it makes it hard to find the right evidence we need to show evryone else. I too have found awesome prints where they shouldn't be and have had police men and devout church goer's call me with sighting info. We can't expect everyone to believe these animals are real that would be to much to ask for but at least maybe admit it's possible. All the folks that are seeing the animal can't all be crazy right? Anyway I hope something good comes back from the dna testing Brian is doing

Why do the Sasquatch's hide? Think of the hilarity that would ensue if they lived with human families. Anyone remember "Harry and the Hendersons"?

I had mixed feelings about their existence until an aunt by marriage told me about seeing one. This woman was incapable of telling a lie and was, at first, very reluctant to tell me the story. This happened in the Fraser Canyon many years ago. For many years doubters used to scoff about huge man-like creatures in Africa too, then its existence was proved - the gorilla. Another myth - the giant squid. I'll keep an open mind until results are back on blood and hair samples.

Why do so many people want to believe outrageous stuff about our planet and its inhabitants, as though the world needs evidence of fairy tales to make it a more pleasurable place to live? Isn't our mere existence and the fact we can enjoy sustained life for up to a century or more, without being "plugged in", fantastic enough? Or our ability to reproduce...our capability for independent thought and reason...and the technology we enjoy today?? It's sure good enough for me. You folks go on and keep believing in bigfoot, Santa, unicorns, leprechauns, Jesus and the tooth fairy...I'll stick to the truth.

And travhops, in the 18th and 19th centuries when the existence of gorillas was still in doubt by some...mankind did not enjoy the benefits of satellites, helicopters, night-vision goggles, thermal imaging and GPS, to name just a few tools. Physical evidence would have been found by now, using today's technology. Keep an open mind all you like but there are simply no sasquatch roaming our back woods. They make for a decent Olympic mascot though, or some benign Friday morning web chat.

Do you follow the scientific news about all the new species being discovered? I do keep an open mind. Sightings are very prevalent in native history and most of those old legends have a basis in fact. I also believe the Loch Ness monster and Ogopogo have some factual basis. Hoser, the Yeti sounds to me like a very similar creature. People scoffed for many years over the Giant Squid stories - now look. It is no longer legend but fact. I'll have to do some research but I remember hearing old stories about a creature they named Jocko who was captured when they were building the railroad through the Fraser Canyon, seeing newspaper photos in some obscure book.

Google Jocko, Fraser Canyon sasquatch. Under Wildmen of Asia you'll find this story, pretty interesting reading.

True plus I think Yeti is supposed to be white but can't swear by that. Supposedly there is a similar creature in the Florida Everglades but can't remember the name. In California and other U.S.states it's called Bigfoot. There are a lot of legends about this animal.

Talk about irony. Harry and the Hendersons was on TV yesterday. Just as enjoyable as the first time I watched it. It is a cute movie.

fishfood is right we have to bring back the Kokanee Ranger,,,those hot chicks dont have the Sasquatches in check, and they hide because they`re trying to steel all the Kokanee beer.We have to bring back the Kokanee Ranger before this gets too out of hand, what if we run out of Kokanee, they could go after Budweiser next or Labbats Genuine. I dont have anything personal against Sasquatches but I dont want my beer stolen, bring back the Ranger and get these gol darn Sasquatches in check again,,,
