B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics will participate in the second annual Food for Life food drive in support of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, seeking donations at two city supermarkets. They'll be at the College Heights Save-On-Foods today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They'll be at the Parkwood Save-On-Foods on Dec. 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. BCAS paramedics help the sick and injured every day and we know that having good food contributes to overall good health, said Prince George paramedic Jim Vanderploeg. We want to make a difference to everyone that needs our help. The St. Vincent de Paul Society operates a soup kitchen at 1220 Second Ave. serving breakfast to an average of 120 people and lunch to an average of 250 people every day. The food contributed during the drive is packaged into emergency hampers consisting of one week of groceries. Last year, BCAS paramedics helped raise about $10,000 worth of food for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
