Kelly Road secondary's drama department presents The Jungle Book next week. On Dec. 10 to 13. Audrey Rowell's Grade 11/12 drama class will whisk audiences away to the jungles of India for the beloved Rudyard Kipling tale of Mowgli and his animal friends Baloo, Bagera and some less savoury characters like Kaa the snake, a wild tribe of moneys and Sher Kaan the sinister tiger. Tickets are $5 for students, seniors and children or $10 for adults. ================= Monday is the honour roll assembly at Heritage elementary. Students who have earned honour-roll status will be recognized at an assembly at 11:15 a.m. Staff and students are doing their part to help improve environmental awareness. The Green Committee, led by Mrs. Mikulasik, Mrs. Mallett, and Mr. Laing, along with the leadership students are heading a number of initiatives around the school, including fundraising events to help purchase plants and trees to be planted around the school area. =============== Immaculate Conception School choir continues its performance schedule by singing at the Seniors Centre on Brunswick Street Sunday evening at their annual Christmas Dinner. Those involved in the upcoming school production of A Christmas Carol are looking forward to the behind the scenes visit to Theatre North West today. Monday is Immaculate Conception Schools feast day and a huge day of events is planned. The day will include a celebration of mass, the grand opening of the schools renovated library, special guests who will read to students, lunch provided by the Parent Support Group, students vs. P.G. Firefighters in floor hockey, and to top it all off - a crazy hat day! ============= Duchess Park secondary's Charity Crew is working toward a Toy and Food drive. Students are being asked to donate toys for teens between the ages of 13 and 17. The toys will be collected on Dec. 12 and donated to the Salvation Army. A food drive is also underway. Students will be collecting items in a school wide challenge up to Dec. 18. The food drive items will also be forwarded to the Salvation Army to help support families in need this winter. The design team for the new Duchess Park is meeting with a group of students to gather their input for the new building. Students met with the team last week for a background session and will be meeting again next week. ============== Last Friday, Heather Park Middle Schools bands performed at the Festival of Trees, along with the Austin Road Choristers. They will also perform at the Heather Park Christmas concert Dec. 12. Last weekend, HPMSs wrestling team coached by Dennis McCarthy (with teacher-sponsor Mr. Switzer) competed in the Fall Brawl hosted by Williams Lake secondary school. Our team was able to bring back three medals: Teran S. (bronze) and Courtney B. and Becky D. (silver). ================ The choir of Highglen Montessori Elementary School enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Christmas Night of Music at Vanier Hall Wednesday night. The suggestion has been made by teachers and staff to consider donations to Plan Canada (http://www.plancanada.ca/hope) to support their global projects for those in greater need instead of or in addition to the many gifts of kindness received prior to winter break. Two students have initiated the C & L Operation Shoebox for children in Prince George. A box for a boy and a girl will be made up in each classroom and given to the Salvation Army to be distributed as part of their programs. Students are excited to give to those in need locally. The monthly PAC meeting is being held on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the library. ==================== The Grade 2/3 students at Sacred Heart School joined their prayer friends for the annual Advent Prayer Friend Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral Thursday. Principal Mr. Harnish is leading weekly Advent Assemblies each Friday morning in December. Mrs. Murphy is heading the Holy Childhood Advent Campaign which is raising funds for the Philippines this year. Ms. Ruddy and the Grade 6/7 students are organizing the annual Toy Drive this month. ================== At
cole Austin elementary, the second recognition assembly rolled around on Wednesday and the first term reports will be going home next Wednesday. The Christmas concert is set for Dec. 18 at 12:30 p.m. and plans are in place for the Winter Singalong, a.k.a. Santa Hat Day, on Dec. 19 at 12:45 p.m.
