Spruce Kings head south for busy weekend Print E-mail

Unless they’re playing the Quesnel Millionaires, it’s never a short road to another B.C. Hockey League arena for the Prince George Spruce Kings.
That road well-travelled, otherwise known as Highway 97, took the Kings south to Westbank for a game tonight (7 p.m. start, CFIS 93.1 FM) against the Westside Warriors. It’s the start of a three-game roadtrip that will lead the Kings to Merritt to play the Centennials on Saturday night, then to Salmon Arm for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Silverbacks.
The Kings are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters Sunday at the Coliseum, less than a day after the Kings scored a 3-1 home ice win over Westside. The sixth-place Kings (15-12-1-3) have dropped five points behind the fifth-place Warriors (18-13-0-3), who have gone into a bit of tailspin, winning just three of their last 10 games.
Westside is coming off a 3-1 loss Wednesday to the Penticton Vees in Penticton.
On Tuesday the Warriors picked up forward Quinn Gould in a trade from the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for the rights to former Prince George Cougars forward Colby Kulhanek. Gould led the Alberta Major Midget League in goal-scoring last season with 33 and picked up a league-high 12 goals in the playoffs for Fort Saskatchewan.
The Kings and Warriors will ice a lineup that includes four all-star defencemen. Zach Davies, the Kings captain, and Wes McLeod, as well as Westside blueliners Cory Pritz and Justin Schultz, found out Wednesday they’ve made the list to play for the Interior Conference team in the BCHL all-star game, Jan. 14 in Vernon. Kings goalie Kevin Genoe and forwards Sam Muchalla and Sean Ambrosie also were picked for the Interior team.
