Reforestation not addressed Print E-mail

(ital)Re: The best of times, the worst of times (story, Nov. 29).
Forests Minister Pat Bell is, to quote The Citizen, "championing the idea of growing better trees, faster."
What is Mr. Bell championing, because anyone in the silviculture industry can tell you the truth as opposed to his party's lies, especially on this government thread: www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfp/mountain_pine_beetle/actionplan/2006/SNAP_Reforestation.pdf
Here it states: "In 2006 the number of seeds being sown for both private and government reforestation efforts across the province numbered over 250 million, with this number to grow in the coming years due to the mountain pine beetle."
mr. Bell has forgot to update the facts:
2006: 250 million seedlings;
2008: 250 million seedlings;
2009: 180 million seedlings (projected);
2010: 150 million seedlings (projected).
Not the growth he is championing nor does he offer any specifics on how he will make seedlings grow faster.
The B.C. Liberals have not addressed the reforestation of B.C.'s forests and they have been dead for years. Mr. Campbell and Mr. Bell have relied on inflating the seedling numbers through private interests, who are now championing natural regeneration to cut costs.
Time to step up to plate, Mr. Bell, and offer some real facts and a real vision for the future of our forests instead of hastily put together spin doctoring.
