Loverboy formed in 1980 in Calgary, Alberta. After being rejected by many U.S. record labels, they signed with Columbia Records Canada and began recording their first album March 20, 1980 with Mike Reno on lead vocals, Paul Dean as the guitarist, Scott Smith as the bassist, Doug Johnson on keyboards, and Matt Frenette on drums.
Throughout the 1980s, Loverboy produced numerous hit songs, made four multi-platinum albums, and sold millions of records. Their hits include, Turn Me Loose, Working for the Weekend, Notorious, and Hot Girls in Love. These hit singles, plus Lovin' Every Minute of It have become arena rock staples, and are still heard on rock radio stations across the United States, Canada, and Prince George.
Currently the band features all the original members save for Ken Sinnaeve (a former member of Dean and Frenette's pre-Loverboy band Streetheart) on bass, who replaced the late Scott Smith.
The CN Centre Loverboy show features a cabaret-style floor, with all ages seating in the bleachers. Hot Rash, an exciting new rock band from Quesnel, BC, are Loverboy’s special guests. Loverboy will be at the CN Centre Thursday, February 5, 2009.
Check out their website for more information at www.loverboyband.com.
