Show Home ticket sales strong for Spruce Kings Print E-mail

Who wants to live in a $100 house?
Thousands of people do, judging by the number of tickets already sold for the Prince George Spruce Kings Show Home Lottery.
The Kings have a sweet deal for one lucky grand prize winner, who will convert the $100 cost of a ticket into a $375,000 show home. The 1,603 square-foot Jenish Design home custom-built by Epp Construction overlooks Aberdeen Glen golf course at 2696 Links Drive.
“Sales are going fantastic, we’re already over halfway there with more than 4,000 (of a possible 6,999) tickets sold -- it’s basically one of the fastest starts to our Show Home Lottery in the history of the draw,” said Jim Young, the Spruce Kings sales and marketing manager.
“With the economy the way it has been, we are surprised to be halfway there, but then again, with the quality of the home we’re presenting, we aren’t surprised because this is the biggest home we’ve done and people are seeing the value that ticket can win them this time.”
The Show Home Lottery is the B.C. Hockey League team’s major fundraiser. It annually provides more than half of the community-owned team’s operating budget.
“The sellout from last year has created a lot of anticipation and excitement for the tickets and the house is absolutely gorgeous this year,” said Young. “It’s 1,603 square feet, furnished with appliances from Northern Hardware, with an alarm system and sound system supplied by Curtis Elite.
“Without this home, I don’t think the Spruce Kings would survive,” he said. “Our costs keep going up and there’s not many more dollars and cents coming in, so we need to have that house sell out every year to make it feasible to keep running the organization. The Spruce Kings have been around a long time and people always seem to reach deep into their pockets and pull out $100 of their hard-earned money to support the team and we can’t thank the people of the city and the province enough.”
Jagdish and Samrit Suran had their ticket drawn Sunday night as winners of a $1,000 trip to Vancouver to see a Canucks game. Darlene O’Neil’s ticket was drawn Nov. 11 as winner of a dream cruise worth $4,269. Both trips were supplied by Japatedon Travel & Cruises.
All ticket purchasers will be eligible for eight more early-bird prizes including trips to Disneyland, and Las Vegas, a big screen high-definition TV, gift cards for Wal-Mart and Home Depot, and Spruce Kings season tickets. The subsidiary prize winners will remain eligible for the grand prize, to be drawn Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. at the show home.
Tickets are available at Wal-Mart, the Kings office at the Coliseum or by calling 250-962-I-WIN (4946).
