Last month was rainier and much milder than most Novembers in Prince George, statistics from Environment Canada show. The mean temperature for the month of 0.9 degrees Celsius was well above the normal -2.9 degrees. Total precipitation of 65.8 millimetres was significantly above the average for November of 51.5 mm, said Jim Steele, forecaster for the Meteorological Service of Canada. The month started off very mild with afternoon temperatures climbing into the low teens on Nov. 2. Conditions cooled afterwards, but, with the exception of a few scattered days, they remained above longer-term normal figures. On only one day did temperatures stay below the freezing mark all day. "On the precipitation side of things, the milder-than-normal temperatures resulted in less snow than a typical November, while rainfall was above normal," Steele said. "All totalled up, precipitation was measured on 17 days during the month, a bit more than normal, while the total precipitation -- rainfall and melted snow -- came in above the normal. "The record books will show a very mild and somewhat damp month." The average daily high of 4.4 C was considerably above the normal of 0.6 degrees C. The average morning low for the month of -2.7 C was also well above the normal of -6.3 C. The warmest day was Nov. 2 with a high of 13.8. The coldest was Nov. 19, which had an overnight low of -9.2 degrees C, Steele said. As to precipitation, the total rainfall last month of 32.4 mm was above the normal of 20.2 mm. In contrast, November's total snowfall of 31.8 centimetres was below the normal of 36.2 cm. Measurable precipitation occurred on 17 days, more than the usual 15 days, he said. The greatest rainfall in one day was 6.4 mm on Nov. 9. The most snow in one day last month was 7.1 cm on Nov. 6. Total precipitation year to date in Prince George is 616.5 mm, above the normal of 552.8 mm. No daily or monthly records were established last month, Steele noted.
