One of Canada's great humanitarian celebrities, Tom Jackson, is once again singing for someone's supper. The actor and singer is as well known for raising money and meals for Canada's food banks as he is for his time spent on the country charts and on the TV screen. On Dec. 8 he brings his annual Singing For Supper tour to Prince George along with very special guests Amanda Stott and Beverley Mahood, both well known country stars themselves. I feel that as thirst and hunger plunges deeper into the heart of our country, the call rings loud and clear for those of us who listen to those cries," Jackson said. "This tour is our calling - for those who live to transform a child's tears of sorrow to joyous tears. Now is our chance to stand up and be counted...our chance to change our world. Singing For Supper is just one way to help those who help others in need. The Salvation Army gets the designated proceeds of the show. According to Jackson's charitable organization, his food bank philanthropy over the past 21 years has generated $10 million. Last year's efforts raised $372,000 and 12,128 pounds of food. Jackson is well known as a country singer, and his rendition of The Huron Carole has become the signature version of the oldest known all-Canadian Christmas song. He was also the star of the television movie The Diviners based on the classic Margaret Laurence novel. He was also a longtime star of the CBC series North Of 60. Amanda Stott was still a teenager when she first climbed the country charts, winning a Juno Award and getting plenty of attention on CMT-USA in the process. Since then she has phased into a pop sound that crossed over on the strength of hit single Paper Rain. She is also a featured singer on the Cirque Du Soleil arena show called Delirium. Beverley Mahood was a member of the pop country group Lace but her Girl Out Of The Ordinary solo career was also well known and now she is a face recognized coast to coast for her work as a celebrity host on CMT-Canada. She, Stott and Jackson have worked together a number of times on these charity events. "I can't wait to see you all," Mahood said. "Please come out and join Tom Jackson, Amanda Stott and I as we celebrate the holiday season in support of your local food bank. It's been so wonderful reuniting with Tom and Amanda. Both are so talented, and great fun to be around." Tickets are $20 each available in advance at Books and Company and the Salvation Army's office on Ospika Blvd. The show is one week from tonight at Vanier Hall. Donations of food items are also being collected at the show. Patrons are encouraged to bring items for the city's most disadvantaged citizens. Most Needed Items - Pasta products & Rice - Canned meats and fish - Dry and canned soups & stews - Canned fruit & vegetables - Flour - Breakfast cereal - Peanut butter - Canned/Powdered milk - Fruit Juices - Pasta Sauce - Beans & Legumes - Infant formula & Baby Food
