Heather Heim, left, is congratulated by Capt. Mindy Meyer upon being promoted to warrant officer of the 396 Royal Canadian Air Cadet squadron. (Submitted photo)
Heather Heim, a 17-year-old Grade 12 student at Duchess Park secondary and dedicated member of the 396 Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Prince George, was promoted this week to the position of squadron warrant officer. Reporting directly to the commanding officer, Heather will be responsible for carrying out orders between officers and cadets, which can be a demanding role. "It's a really good accomplishment," Capt. Valerie Bergey said. "(But) It can be stressful at times, because it's quite a hectic pace." A demonstrated leader during her five years as an air cadet, Heather earned her power pilot wings this summer in Comox after previously obtaining her glider pilot wings. She is also an award-winning member of the cadet biathlon team that has competed at national competitions. "She's done a lot of community service as well, poppy campaigns and things like that," Bergey said.

Nothing against air cadets but why does the citizen only ever put stuff about them in the paper? What about the St. John Ambulance Cadet brigade 10th aniversary that was this year? or that it's also the 125th Aniversary of St. John Ambulance here in Canada? What about our promotions that we give our cadets? what about army, sea, navy cadet promotions? what makes air cadets so much more important? To me the paper is not being fair.
