A Prince George Forest District forester from the 1940s, and the province's oldest living forester at 100 years old, was recognized Thursday with the creation of a bursary at UNBC.
The $1,500 annual bursary was created in Lorne Swanell's name in UNBC's ecological and science management program.
B.C. Forests Minister Pat Bell, created the bursary to recognize and thank Swanell, who was the province’s chief forester from 1965 to 1972, for his contributions to B.C.’s forest industry.
“The creation of this bursary in Lorne Swanell’s name is a fitting honour for a man whose dedication and commitment to our forest industry is to be commended,” said Premier Gordon Campbell. “We thank Mr. Swanell for his long service to his province and his country.”

According to a notice published earlier this year, Lorne's parents were Frank and Ada Mary Swannell. Wikipedia has a good article on Frank Swannell.

Thank you fullerglway :) A book well worth the read if your intersted in this area is called Surveying the Northern interior of British columbia. It has alot of Franks work documented in it. The one thing that is intreiguing about franks pictures in bc archives is the devestated forests in the background in almost all the pictures. Cheers!
