Van Bien elementary is participating in the Operation Christmas Child program. Every class in the school is putting together two shoeboxes for a needy child (one boy and one girl) from a Third World country. The students and staff are contributing gift items such as school supplies, small toys, books, T-shirts and some Christmas candy treats.

Today Vanway elementary is hosting a volleyball play day.
The PAC and everyone involved at Vanway would like to extend a big thank-you to Please Mum and Tides Canada for the grant that was just received from them. As well as a big thanks to all who donated to the Playground Blitz.

Students of Highglen Montessori elementary school are participating in the annual “Hoops for Heart” for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Donations are being collected and healthy heart smart activities promoted.
A garland clothesline has been strung underneath the office window for the annual collection of mittens to give to those less fortunate - become “Smitten with Mittens.” Boxes are also in the hallway for the annual collection of non-perishable items for the Salvation Army hampers.
Several classrooms enjoyed a visit from Rose Thomas, who exposed the students to the traditions and crafts of the First Nations people.

Glenview elementary's PAC arranged a special visit by former students Justin Fillion and Alex Wright, who are now members of the Spruce Kings BCHL hockey team. Then, on Sunday, students, staff and parents are attending a Spruce Kings hockey game.
Glenview leadership students are busy filling shoeboxes this week. Students and staff have donated items and the filled shoeboxes are sent to Third World countries as part of Operation Christmas Child.

Shady Valley elementary has done it again. With generous donations from families, the students have filled 16 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for needy children. Students and staff will soon be busy rounding up donations for the school's adopted Christmas family through the Salvation Army program.
Last week all Shady Valley students enjoyed a field trip to the Two Rivers Art Gallery and the public library.

Thanks to the efforts of auxiliary constables Striker and Garrison, all of Heather Park middle school’s Grade 6 students have participated in the anti-bullying education program called BRAVE (Bully Resistance and Violence Education). In 1997-98, a local RCMP officer, Dale Girling, developed this program after a deadly bullying incident. The BRAVE course is about positive confrontation, bullying, relationships and good manners.
On Nov. 20, students and teachers celebrated the completion of their six-lesson course with a special BRAVE graduation.

It was an honour to have MLA Shirley Bond come to Cedars Christian School last Friday and present a Governor General's award to Class of '08 graduate Lauren MacDonald and a coaching award to Roland Rempel, one of the school's coaches.
Ms. Bond also attended the Canadian citizenship ceremony the school hosted on Friday afternoon.
The elementary grades are working hard to prepare for the annual Christmas concert in December. They will present “A Lamb’s Tale” this year.

Sacred Heart school students will attend the Vanderhoof Children's Theatre production of "Bugsy Malone Jr." at the P.G. Playhouse today. Parent/teacher interviews will take place tonight and on Friday morning at the school. The Sacred Heart School Drama Group members are looking forward to performing at the Festival of Trees on Friday.
A representative of the Northern Uganda Development Foundation will visit Sacred Heart on Tuesday to update the school on how funds raised by the students helped to purchase goats for needy families in Uganda.

The Duchess Park secondary student dance committee is working hard to prepare for the Charity Winter Gala. The gala is a semi-formal winter dance that donates the profits raised to the Prince George Hospice Society. Last year the students donated more than $600 to the hospice society. To recognize student achievement in the first term, 380 students are being treated to a pizza lunch with the administration and counsellors. Students are being recognized for perfect attendance, good and excellent work habits, honour roll and principal's list.
Another group of Duchess Park students is being treated to lunch this week. The student focus group will be meeting with the architects for the new Duchess Park secondary school. The architects are looking to have student input into the new building.

The students at Zion Lutheran school have been practicing and preparing for the Advent season, the celebration of the birth of Jesus. They are getting ready to perform at the Festival of Trees and will be presenting their concert at Zion Lutheran Church for the congregation. Members of the community are welcome. Concert night is Dec. 16 and will start at 7 p.m.
Portions of the concert program will be performed by the students at the Council of Seniors Tea at the Civic Centre, Dec. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. and also at the Carol Fest, hosted by Zion Lutheran Church, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

A pair of fundraising efforts happened at …cole Austin Road elementary this week. The Scholastic Book Fair came to a close and the rest of the books were boxed up, but not before one name was chosen out of the draw box to win $25 worth of books each for himself/herself and for their own classroom. Mrs. Berger's Grade 3 Class was the lucky classroom winner and Elijah Good went home with four new books.
