A call for proposals to operate the Gateway seniors complex drew a response.
In all five groups submitted eight proposals by the Nov. 19 deadline, Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins said Monday.
They could submit proposals for one or both of two opportunities. Both involved purchasing the facility and leasing it back to Northern Health, but one included providing care services while Northern Health would remain responsible for care services in the other.
The proponents are a blend of local, provincial and national market participant, she said.
A preferred proponent should be selected by the end of this year and Northern Health will start negotiations with the aim of reaching an agreement by the end of January.
The facility, which should be open by summer 2009 at the corner of Victoria Street and 20th Avenue will offer 94 long-term care beds, 50 assisted living units and 31 market rental units for a total of 175 residential home units.
The facility, which will cover 150,000 square feet, is being constructed by Western Industrial Contracting Ltd. of Prince George at a cost of $42 million.
