(ital)Re: CN Centre security needs some help (letter, Nov. 20). The incidents after the Backstreet Boys concert described in a previous letter to the editor deserve some clarification. No individuals were forced to wait outside in the rain and snow. Two of us waited until the last person had left the lobby and been picked up after the show. This was shortly before midnight and almost two hours after the music stopped. The story regarding the young man in the lobby is missing the beginning and the end. The young man had been asked to leave the building. It was only after he had struck one of our staff that two security guards attempted to restrain him. He was then given several opportunities to leave the property on his own but refused, and struck two more security personnel. He was restrained again and the police were called. When the police arrived they listened to the parties involved and made the decision to take the young man into custody. We have provided security for concerts and functions in Prince George for more than 20 years. Our focus is to enable people to enjoy themselves safely at events. In order to ensure this was being done to the best of our ability, I visited every major facility in B.C. and met with the people who work there. I have attended international training seminars on providing security and customer service to those attending events ranging from opera to concerts to sporting events. The security provided at CN Centre is at least comparable if not better than that provided in other arenas throughout B.C. and North America. This is based not only on our observations but the comments of the security and production personnel that travel with the artists that come to CN Centre. The majority of people who attend events at CN Centre are there to enjoy the event. Occasionally there are people whose actions are unsafe to others and they are asked to leave. To those of you who are there to enjoy the show, we will continue to do our best to help you to do so.
