This Friday, Cedars Christian school is hosting a Citizenship award ceremony as well as a Governor General award.

Pinewood elementary is involved in a pair of charity events to encourage giving and community awareness for students. Every Tuesday from now until June the Leadership students will be holding Change For A Change, a campaign to raise money to fight cystic fibrosis. Everything from pennies on up will be gratefully accepted into the collection containers in each classroom or the one at the main office. The total will be donated to the city's annual cystic fibrosis walk. Students are also gathering contributions for the Operation Christmas Child campaign.

Today at 5 p.m., Duchess Park hosts Parent Teacher Night. Charity Crew's fundraiser "Pocket Change for Global Change" raised over $700 for the Northern Uganda Development Foundation. The dollars raised, go towards building wells to provide clean and safe drinking water.

UNBC School of Nursing will provide a rotation of injury prevention activities for the primary students at Sacred Heart. This program is designed to highlight safety issues in water activities, being a pedestrian, helmet and seatbelt usage. Also Pacific Western Bus Company will visit the school to educate the children on bus safety. Grade 2/3 students were delighted to be the winners of the annual REAPS Waste Reduction Challenge 2008. Their prize was $100.

The Beaverly elementary student Lleadership group is actively involved in Anti-Bullying Week Nov. 16 to 22. The leadership group uses the PA system to speak to all the students about bullying.

The Leadership students of Highglen Montessori elementary have been focused on their goal of “Random Acts of Kindness”. This past week with the snowfall, students cleaned off the windshields of the teachers before the end of the day. The drama club will present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Roles have been chosen and practices continue twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

The past two weeks have been very busy . The students from Grade 7 sponsored a crazy hat day on Nov. 7 at Vanway elementary with a lot of wild and wacky hats.

Keegan Small, a Grade 2 student at Glenview elementary, is one of two child actors chosen to portray Tiny Tim in the upcoming Theatre Northwest play A Christmas Carol. This is Keegan's first acting job.

Heather Park middle school’s PAC-sponsored Purdy's Chocolate fundraiser was a huge success generating more than $2,000. In the promotion draw, Taylor S. won her Purdy order and gets her money back.

The St. Mary's school choir will be singing at Sunday's 11 a.m. mass. The choir will also be singing at the Festival of Trees on Wednesday. Two student nurses, who are doing their practicum at St. Mary's School, have been giving workshops on nutrition and hand washing throughout the grades.

Students in the Immaculate Conception school choir are very excited about their upcoming performance at the Festival of Trees on Monday. They are also practicing for the Christmas season of concerts in the community.

There is music in the air at Heritage elementary. Wednesday, students were treated to a performance by the DP Todd Concert band, many of whom are former Heritage students themselves. The Heritage student choir, under the direction of Mrs. Trofanenko, has been practicing Mondays and Wednesdays at recess. Staff and students are doing their part to help improve environmental awareness at Heritage. The Green Committee, led by Mrs. Mikulasik, Mrs. Mallett, and Mr. Laing, along with the leadership students are heading a number of initiatives around the school, including fundraising events to help purchase plants and trees to be planted around the school area.

Wednesday was a flurry of fun at …cole Austin Road with wacky hair day, pajama day, and the Scholastic Book Fair. That morning students turned many heads with crazy hair day (simultaneously pajama day) with spikes, ponies, braids, and coloured (even purple) follicles in every direction. Students wandered through the gym in their best flannels and polar fleece PJs, with money in hand, to purchase books at the Scholastic Book Fair. Wednesday evening, parents were welcome to buy early Christmas presents at the book fair.
