There are eight candidates vying for seven seats on the School District 57 board of education. The deadline for filing was Friday afternoon. The election will be held on Nov. 15, and candidates having the opportunity to withdraw their names until Oct. 17. Chief election officer Tony Sweet said he is glad there are enough candidates to hold an election. "This is the same number of candidates we had in the previous election," said Sweet. "We have an election, which I think is a good thing. We're very happy we have more than seven candidates. I think what's most important is the quality of the candidates, rather than the number of the candidates and hopefully we'll see that as the campaign moves forward." Candidates for school trustee for three-year terms are: Trish Bella, incumbent Lois Boone, Valentine Crawford, Betty Gurnsey, incumbent Lyn Hall, incumbent Roxanne Ricard, incumbent Sharel Warrington and Rhonda White. Three previous trustees on the seven-member board, Bill Christie, Naomi Manning and Michelle Marrelli are not running again.
