Full-tournament passes to what stands to be the highest-calibre baseball event in the citys history go on sale next Thursday. The World Baseball Challenge will bring to Prince George Citizen Field a lineup that includes Canadas national team, the national teams of Cuba and Taiwan, the semi-pro Reno Astros, and the host Prince George Axemen. Tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets starting Oct. 16. Reserved seats under the covered grandstand behind home plate will be on sale for $149. Less than 300 of those designated seats are available. Bleacher seats, which are to be installed along the first and third baselines and beyond the centrefield wall, will be sold for $99 each. Those seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis during the tournament. Five teams have been announced for the WBC, set for July 16-26, which would guarantee a minimum of 18 games. However, tournament organizers are negotiating with five other national teams, which could result in an increase to an eight-team tournament and bump the number of games up to 31. Should that happen, there will be no increase in the cost of ticket packages. Further details about the tournament lineup, ticket packages and announcements of major corporate sponsorships for the WBC will be revealed at a news conference next Wednesday.
