SCHOOL DISTRICTLOIS BOONE
Longtime elected official Lois Boone is seeking reelection as School District 57 trustee. "I handed in my papers today," said Boone Thursday. "I still have a lot of things I want to work on. I want to continue making Victoria aware of our funding difficulties in this district, and I want to put some attention to special-needs students and the resources available to them here in this district." Boone is currently the vice chair of the board of education. She served two terms as trustee in the 1980s before going in to provincial politics where she won three terms as MLA and held a number of cabinet positions including deputy premier. She returned to the board of education table in the last municipal election. One of her main trustee projects during the past three years was helping lead the Aboriginal Education Task Force to a final report loaded with recommendations. "My decision to run again has a lot to do with my excitement about seeing those recommendations through to some conclusions. I want to be there to see those things come about," she said.
