The double homicide last week in Vanderhoof has been ruled a murder-suicide by police.
"Initial evidence at the scene pointed towards a murder suicide, however investigators needed to rule out a double homicide," said North District RCMP spokesman Const. Craig Douglass. "No matter how it looks at first, you still have to rule out the possibility of a double murder, which is why we have to go through these channels that took us more than a week to make the ruling."
Douglass said no autopsies needed to be performed in this case because the people involved were positively identified from the start, as was the cause of death clearly evident. Police are now closing the file.
"We don't want to release more information about the situation out of respect for the families involved," Douglass said. "They have been through enough already and this is not something criminal."
The names of the two deceased people are not being released at the request of family members.
===============================
A series of public fights is being investigated by police with little success. Mounties hope the public can help them better understand what happened Tuesday night at about 7:30 p.m. when they were made aware that two males and a female were involved in altercations on Victoria Street between the Connaught Motor Inn and 17th Avenue.
"A shirtless Caucasian male was reported to have been fighting with a female and then at another point with a male, aboriginal in appearance," said Prince George RCMP Const. Jayson Hansen. "There have been conflicting reports that the shirtless male was either the victim or perpetrator of a robbery or attempted robbery."
The shirtless man was located and detained, but the others in the scenario could not be found. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS / www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
