Canadian folk musician Garnet Rogers will perform at the Island Mountain Arts Public Gallery in Wells on Sunday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. start. Valemount Learning Society will receive $23,100 to deliver an adult literacy program and $21,000 for an ESL program. As well, Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy in Valemount will receive $8,900 and Robson Valley Home Literacy Society in McBride $17,000 for their adult literacy programs. -------------- Three Prince George students have received a $5,000 Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship. They are Nicholas Fuchs, Tiana Kelly and Tanner Shaw and all three are transferring to UNBC from CNC. The scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate students who have completed two years at a public post-secondary institution in B.C. and are transferring to another degree-granting institution in B.C. to complete their degrees. Students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 or 87.5 per cent for 54 credits completed and have demonstrated service to their school and community. Winners of the $125 draws are Larry Prazma and Susan Faye of Carstairs, Alta., while Margaret Berg captured the $1,000 draw Sept. 1. ----- Prince George and Quesnel are among 58 local governments benefiting from upwards of $800,000 from the second round of the province's annual Infrastructure Planning Grant program. The cities will each receive $10,000, which will go towards climate change trends and projections in Prince George and transient pressure mitigation in the Two Mile Flat area in Quesnel. ---- AimHi is offering networking and information sessions for parents, guardians and caregivers wanting to learn about services and the process to follow to access services. ------------ Two Prince George volunteers received top regional awards at the Canadian Cancer Society's Northern Regional Council held recently in Prince George. Uneza Waqar received the 2008 Youth Bursary for volunteer work in many different capacities with the society. She is a fourth-year student in business and pre-medicine, and plans to enter the Northern Medical Program. Margaret Brevik was presented the Golden Daffodil Award on behalf of the PG Resource Support Team for excellence in daffodil sales. Brevik has played an important role in tripling the sales of the flowers of hope during the past two years. Officials says thanks to volunteers and donors, the society has been able to fund $49 million in cancer research and prevention initiatives across Canada in 2008.
