I am writing in hope that something could get done about the intersection at Fifth and Victoria.
I was involved in an accident there a couple of months ago when another driver failed to stop in an attempt to beat traffic across the busy road. My car was written off and I am still dealing with injuries from the accident.
Since my accident I've seen five other accidents in the exact same intersection.
How many more people need to get hurt from other people in a rush to cross or turn there before this city does something? Something needs to be done about this intersection immediately.

Planning???
written by relic , October 06, 2008 (07:41:30 AM)
Planning and safety in this town does not exist, you take on the bypass at 15th avenue light going south, how much more room they could of made to turn left, because a of a wide meridium they left.
How many times have you seen, or wanting to turn left, and still stuck in the lane that is suppose to be going straight through at rush hour, where as if this meridium was narrowed down to let more people that are turning left into, the ones going straight through could. This town is so far behind in planning, they think their first. AMEN

Remember Richard Scarry's Busy Town books, thats what PeeGee reminds me of.
There are MULTIPLE dangerous spots in this city. What I find really funny is that the RCMP will park by the Roller drome and nail speeders yet just around the corner they dont do anything about the tards who park at the merge lane. The other one is the exit from Zellers onto the highway. It seems that a great number of people cant identify a YIELD sign.It seems that there are even more doornobs who cant identify school zone signs.Makes ya wonder how half of these people passed their tests to begin with.

I 150% agree with the school zone issue!!! I am soooo fed up with people speeding thru a school zone! Is the place they are so eager to get, that important??? When they run over a little one heading to or from school...will that place still be important? Tell that to their parents..."But i needed to get to the mall before it closed" Do parents have to stand by the school zone signs and enforcethe speed limit??

My personal opinion....the need to put the wide speed bumps to MAKE people slow down. Sure that costs money to our city BUT again, whats important here?

Hwy 16 and Domano - this has been an issue forever, but there doesn't seem to be much anyone can do about it. I still see people running red lights there on a daily basis. I travel the route frequently and it never fails, every single day someone is running the red. I just don't know what it is people are thinking these days. How many accidents and serious injuries and deaths have there been and yet people STILL do it.

Where are these Red Light cameras that we are suppose to have? and one of the worst things, that Gordon Campbell did
along with other things, too many to mention, was remove the Photo Radar, he must of been caught a few times.

The intersection at 5th and Victoria is almost impossible to make a left turn between 9-5:30 during the week. That is why I always go down a block to the lights. Not a problem for those who value their vehicle.

All intersections are dangerous! Drives just have to learn to take their foot off the gas and open their eyes. Driving around this city lately its no doubt that driver impaitence and incompetence is the leading factor in close calls and crashes.

its called defensive driving,http://www.roadtripamerica.com/DefensiveDriving/Drive-Safe-With-Uncle-Bob.htm, Never expect the other driver to know whats going on on the road chances are 3 out of 4 drivers aren't even paying attention. I,v witnessed so many close calls on Victoria, but this can be the case just about any other road or intersection.
A couple of month ago just about got rear ended on Central, I seen him barreling down on me and all I could do is brace myself the idiot was on his cell phone.
when a speeding driver pulls up on me for instance on a 2 lane I,ll do what i can to get into the slow lane and let him or her pass, 9 time out of 10 there's a N on the back of that vehicle too, but those are accidents looking for a place to happen, you can avoid them from happening around you by defensive driving.

Don't blame the city, don't blame the RCMP, and don't blame the design of the intersections. Most of these "accidents" are caused by poor drivers.
It remindes me of a drive I took on the Sea to Sky highway a couple of years ago. With the reputation it had, I was expecting a poorly designed highway. But no, what I saw were gawd awful driverson a highway that looked quite okay to me. Peddle to the metal, passing on solid lines, tailgating, etc.
What we need in this province are regulations that make it tougher to get and to keep your drivers licence.
A drivers licence is not a right as so many people think. It is a privilege that should be earned.
