FRASER-FORT GEORGE REGIONAL DISTRICT
Kevin Dunphy hopes to continue representing the Willow River-Upper Fraser area of the Fraser-Fort George Regional District. The owner of the Willow River General Store was voted in as Area F director in the spring after former director Shelley Zenzen was killed in a December motor vehicle accident. "I feel like I'm just getting started on developing projects that I'm concerned about, and I'd like to be able to continue on with them," said Dunphy, who so far is the lone Area F candidate in the upcoming civic election. He said residents want to see the "rural economic environment" stimulated in terms of local industry. To do so, funding is required to maintain publicly-used roads. "One of our biggest concerns right now is our rural resource roads are deteriorating very quickly because of the downturn in the forest industry," Dunphy said. "We have to be starting to look at government taking some responsibility for this infrastructure that's deteriorating. It's becoming quite a problem." He would also like to see better hi-speed Internet service in his area, which includes Foreman, Shelley, Giscome, Sinclair Mills, Longworth and Penny. "It's very hit and miss. In Willow River we have it, in the Shelley area they don't, which is closer to town." Local elections will be held Nov. 15.
