UNBC commerce students won $5,000 worth of support from city council on Monday night for their entry in this year's JDC West competition, making the city a gold partner. Coun. Glen Scott suggested a $7,500 donation, which would have made the city a platinum partner, but it was noted that $5,000 is more than three times the contribution the team received last year. The money will come out of the council contingency budget. JDC West is the largest undergraduate business competition in Western Canada. It will be held in Edmonton in January and the 2010 edition will be held in Prince George, council was told, and is expected to draw 700 students to the city. -------------- The provincial government will be urged to follow-up on its own study calling for sustainable long-term for provincially-owned heritage sites, including the Barkerville Historic Town, Cottonwood House and Hat Creek Ranch. ---------- Staff was directed to negotiate a funding agreement with the Ministry of Children and Family Development to develop a crime prevention plan based on a "Communities that Care" model that emphasizes prevention, deterrence and social development. The MCFD has identified $90,000 for each of the next three years to carry out the project. ------------- A proposal to add 23 more units the Town and Country seniors housing development at 7364 and 7406 Hart Highway will go to a public hearing. ----------- A proposal to subdivide out a 4.2-hectare parcel at 7307 Giscome Road for a rural residential subdivision was adopted. A 2.4-hectare parcel of the same property was previously rezoned for the same use.
