KIKINO, Alta. - A trail ride and jamboree are planned for next weekend to help raise money for the parents of a slain Alberta Mountie who are fighting to keep him buried near his hometown.

Const. Leo Johnston's mother, Grace, has vowed to take the fight against her son's widow to the Supreme Court.

In May, Alberta's Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling that said Kelly Johnston has the right to decide where her dead husband should be buried.

She wants his grave moved from Lac La Biche, Alta., to a national RCMP cemetery in Regina.

Brenda Cardinal, one of the organizers of the event near Lac La Biche, says she doesn't know Johnston's parents, but wants to help them with their legal expenses.

In March 2005, gunman James Roszko shot and killed Johnston and three other officers near Mayerthorpe before killing himself.
