MADRID, Spain - Spanair says the plane that crashed last week in Madrid had landing gear trouble that forced it to abandon a takeoff attempt last month on a flight from Spain to Denmark.
The Madrid crash killed 154 people.
A Spanair official said Wednesday that the pilot heard a "louder than usual noise" coming from the front landing gear while the MD-82 was taxiing toward the runway in Palma on the island of Mallorca.
The official said mechanics fixed the problem and the flight proceeded without incident, with 167 passengers and crew aboard.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because company rules bar her name from being published.
