VICTORIA - A Victoria police officer faces an assault charge for an alleged off-duty incident.
The alleged incident involving Sgt. George Chong occurred last June.
The Victoria Police Department is providing few other details, other than reminding the public the officer has not been found guilty of any criminal wrongdoing.
A statement attributed to interim chief Bill Naughton says Chong is on limited administrative duties until the matter is concluded.
A court date has been set for Sept. 23.
The department says the investigation involving Chong was immediately handed to the neighbouring Saanich Police Department.
