Re: Bingo move approved (story, Aug. 26). It seems sadly ironic that the very business that relies on customers taking a gamble, can't take a gamble itself; even with a monopoly in the marketplace. Here's another; the gaming centre's owners are teaching all would-be gamblers a valuable lesson: cut your losses, quit while you're ahead. Uh Oh! That can't be good for business. I should think that this will set an obvious precedent for other developers. Why gamble on a crumbling city core? Play it safe, go out and develop near the big boxes. Part of a long term, strategic development process should include buy-in AND patience. This decision makes it even more difficult to put faith in the official community planning process. If city council hopes to develop an arts and entertainment district in the city's core, it may have to demand that potential developers "buy in" just a little. It would too bad that Chances Good Time community gaming centre couldn't "let it ride." -- Bill Russell Prince George
