SALVATION ARMYGROWER DIRECT
Thursday is Friendship Day at Grower Direct in Prince George where bouquets of flowers are given to those who bring in non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army. The 12th annual Friendship Day is designed to support the anti-hunger program at the Salvation Army which provides meals in the community and at the church as well as daily bread, vegetables and food hampers for about 200 people. "We think Grower Direct's offer of beautiful flowers is great way to highlight the need and say thank you to contributors," said Barb Croome, S.A. community ministries co-ordinator. Salvation Army officials "recognize that food is the vital first step in providing a hand up, not just a hand out," and the importance of providing information on community support services as well as spiritual help, said Croome. "This event is helping us meet those needs." "In the true spirit of Friendship Day, bring a non-perishable food item, keep one flower for yourself and give the other five to friends. Those friends you haven't met will be blessed by your food contribution," Croome said. Each day the Salvation Army provides bread and produce to 120 people, food hampers to 20 families and three times a week 175 people come for a sit-down meal.
