GOLD RIVER, B.C. - A man is in custody and scheduled to appear in provincial court Monday in Campbell River after a 15-year-old female was found dead on a reserve near Gold River.
RCMP said an ambulance was called to the Tsaxana reserve on Saturday just before noon.
Paramedics and Nootka Sound RCMP were called to a residence where they found the body of the girl.
RCMP arrested a 19-year-old male at a nearby residence and he's been charged with sexual assault.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Tim Shields said the name of the accused, who is in custody, would not likely be released until after his court appearance, scheduled for Monday afternoon in provincial court in Campbell River.
Shields said additional charges would likely be laid at a later date.
RCMP said the cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy will be conducted early this week.
Shields said the accused is a lifelong resident of the Tsaxana reserve and was a neighbour of the victim.
