Two bodies have been found inside the burned rubble of the Columbus Hotel.
There was no way for authorities to determine yet whom the victims of the fire were without doing more investigation. It was well known however that two hotel residents - Joseph James Arthur Delere (known as J.J.), 67, and William Bernard Peterson (known as Bill), 50 - were both unaccounted for after fire destroyed the historic building on Tuesday morning. The bodies were discovered by searchers sometime on Saturday, said Prince George RCMP Staff Sgt. Quentin Smith.
Smith confirmed that the forensic investigation is still progressing since a cause has not yet been determined.
It is also not impossible that other bodies will be found, since the coming and going from any hotel is not precisely known at any given time.
Prior to the discovery of these two bodies, one other hotel resident also died. Reginald Alwin Claude White, 58, was found injured in the initial stages of the fire. He was taken to hospital in Vancouver suffering from burns but passed away on Wednesday.
Two others were taken to hospital at the outside of the blaze but their injuries were not determined at the time but thought to be less severe. They have resulted in no further announcements from authorities.
Anyone who has any information about the fire or its cause is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or give the information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS / www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
