A Smithers woman could be charged with public mischief after being caught on tape making false allegations of an attempted abduction, according to RCMP.
On July 18 at 10 a.m., RCMP responded to a report from an 18-year-old female that an unidentified man tried to pull her into a vehicle while she was on a routine break at her job.
A search was conducted by RCMP but no vehicle matching the given description was found in the area.
It was later discovered the allegation was false after video surveillance from the woman's employer showed there was no abduction attempt.
"In the initial stages of the investigation, we had some doubt. And that was confirmed two days ago," RCMP Sgt. Ray Haugen said Friday. "The video surveillance showed that the incident did not occur as reported by her."
Haugen said the investigation is still ongoing and the woman could be charged with public mischief for making a false allegation.

What a Mother Dog...

It's people like that whom make life miserable for a law abiding soul who is just driving around, or what ever. She obviously wants attention. The cost of her actions should be added up dollar wise, and she should have to be retributive to society or give up her freedom in order to pay back her cry of wolf.

A person who needs attention and possibly psychiatric help. Perhaps a condition here could be repaying the man-hours the RCMP wasted investigating a very serious crime that didn't happen. She wanted publicity and is certainly getting it now!

Could be charged is NOT a story.
Making false allegations is -not- a story.
But because they put it in print, and because people
talk about it, and that it causes umbrage from
the tedium of their lives? Well,... THATS a story!

But had their been larger awareness, such as
a news report that a possible abduction had taken place
24-48 hours after it occurred, that would have been
newsworthy. But not now and certainly not anymore.

This ranks right down there with brats who make crank calls to 911. I've caught a few doing it and wanted to do more to them than just give them a stiff reprimand, believe me. If she is still living with Mommy and Daddy, then perhaps they should be either paying the bill or making sure she gets psychriatric help if she has issues.

This kind of stuff puts real victims in greater danger. I have no sympathy for anyone who gets nailed for doing this sort of thing.

Come to think of it, such a false report could have meant thousands of lost man hours and unneccessary alarm among the public. I hope she gets some type of lesson from this.

I think that that kids parents should be looking into why she would be making such a call in the first place. Obviously this child is looking for attention. And no matter the age I say child because it was a childish thing to do. What if by chance a car was in that area that she described?? And that poor person was fasely accused? That would just be horrible.

Well apparantly you don't know much about the law my friend because parents can't be held financially responsible for their children if they turn out to be idiots.
Do you seriously think by law the parents would have to pay the bill for what that kid has done because she is still underaged?
You don't have a clue my friend. It don't work like that in Canada.
