TOKYO - A Japanese appeals court has upheld the conviction of flamboyant former Internet mogul Takafumi Horie.
The Tokyo High Court rejected Horie's appeal of a lower court conviction of securities laws violations, a court official said Friday, speaking on Japan's customary condition of anonymity in giving rulings. The case has come to symbolize the country's efforts to deal with white collar crime at emerging dot.coms.
Horie was convicted in March last year of masterminding a network of decoy investment funds to illegally manipulate earnings at his Net services startup Livedoor Co. The 35-year-old Horie has repeatedly said he is innocent.
