SUMMERLAND, B.C. - RCMP have charged one of their own, folllowing an investigation into an arrest in Summerland, B.C., last summer.

Police say an officer responded to a complaint at a local pub last Aug. 17 and arrested one man for being drunk in a public place.

They say later the same evening, it's alleged the officer came across a man allegedly connected to the earlier incident and there was an altercation, ending with the man's arrest for causing a disturbance and being drunk in public. Neither charge proceeded through the courts.

The man later filed a complaint, alleging he was arrested without sufficient grounds and with inappropriate force, and Cpl. Andre Turcotte is now facing one count of assault and one count of confining, imprisoning or forcibly seizing a person.

Turcotte is scheduled to appear in court in Penticton, B.C., on Aug. 20. RCMP say he has been on administrative duties and his duty status is under review.
