EDMONTON - Family and friends are gathering in Edmonton to remember a former city woman who was slain near her home in Cary, N.C.

The body of Nancy Cooper, 34, a mother of two young girls, was found on July 14 - two days after she had been reported missing.

No suspects have been named in the case, which is being treated as a homicide.

On Tuesday, police released a recording of a 911 call where Cooper's friend reports that the woman was late for a scheduled meeting.

She repeats a conversation with Cooper's husband where he says his wife went jogging with a friend and had yet to return.

Brad Cooper's lawyers issued a statement denouncing the decision to release the tapes, saying it will not move the investigation forward.

"Unfortunately, today's leaks appear calculated to do nothing more than inflame already raw emotions," lawyers said in the statement posted on the website of lawfirm Kurtz and Blum. "They instigate a rush to judgement at a time when reason and restraint should prevail."

Cooper's family travelled to North Carolina after her death and successfully petitioned for custody of the couple's two daughters, Bella and Katie. The family accused Bradley of being emotionally abusive and of having an affair, allegations which have not been proven in court.

Cooper moved to North Carolina eight years ago with her husband, who works for Cisco Systems.
