Pacific Western Brewing Company released a new drink Wednesday that is aimed more at kids than beer drinkers. NatureLand Products Ltd., a division of PWB, officially introduced Pureian, a vitamin-enriched certified organic sparkling beverage that fits in with health-conscious diets, including the new guidelines for food and drink accepted in B.C. schools as of Sept. 2008, said Dave Jones, district sales manager. That means students will find Pureian in vending machines and in the cafeteria where pop used to be. Pureian, in cranberry, mango and natural flavours, has been on store shelves for about two and a half months and has been successful, Jones added. The beverage, available in eco-friendly aluminum cans, can be bought individually for about 99 cents, or $3.99 for a six-pack at Mr. G, Shoppers Wholesale, London Drugs, IGA in B.C. and others. Jones said Pureian is made with pure spring water sourced right at PWB's plant on North Nechako Road. Blue agave is used as an organic sweetener, taking the sugar content down by 80 per cent of that found in regular pop. The cranberry flavoured beverage contains 100 per cent of the required daily intake of Vitamin C, while the mango flavour has Vitamin C, and several B vitamins. About 10 per cent of proceeds from the sale of Pureian will be donated to Environmental Harmony, a non-profit eco-friendly organization, said Jones.
