CALGARY - The first official candidate has entered the race to replace Alberta Liberal Leader Kevin Taft.

Deputy leader and Calgary member of the legislature Dave Taylor announced Wednesday that he's throwing his hat into the ring. Taft is stepping down at the end of the year.

Taylor says there were too many convoluted messages coming from the Liberals in the last provincial election campaign, and he promises to change that if he becomes leader.

Taylor says his main goal will be to reconnect with the 60 per cent of voters who stayed home on election day.

He also says he's confident the party will be able to climb out of its $600,000 debt under his leadership.
