A new season of music by the Prince George Symphony Orchestra promises a greater variety to please all ages, including free concerts for children, and a welcome home to several musicians who got their start in this community. Special guests who were raised in Prince George and ended up as professional musicians will include violinist Jonathan Crow, violinist Karl Stobbe, pianist David Looie and baritone Tyler Duncan. For the lighter hearted there's a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Life is a Cabaret concert, and for the classical set, there are a number of great works from the masters like Haydn, Vivaldi, Brahms and Dvorak. August -- The season begins Aug. 6 with a taste of Latin presentation, Duo Brazil at 8 p.m. at Prince George Playhouse. ** September -- Pops in the Park in Fort George Park at 2 p.m. Sept. 7. Northern Lights concert will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 in Vanier Hall. ** October -- A Tribute to Frank Sinatra at 8 p.m. Oct. 11 in Vanier Hall. A presentation by the National Arts Centre Orchestra is at 8 p.m. Oct. 28 in Vanier Hall. ** November -- A Remembrance Day Tribute will be offered at 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at St. Michael's and All Angel's Church. Family Day at Exploration Place offers a free Peter and the Wolf concert Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Vivaldi's Four Seasons concert will be at Vanier Hall at 8 p.m. Nov. 29. ** December -- Christmas With Santa is a free concert at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the CNC Atrium. PGSO is partnering with UBC Opera Ensemble for four performances of the full production of Hansel and Gretal at Vanier Hall Dec. 19 at 8 p.m.; Dec. 20 at 2 & 8 p.m.; and Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. ** January -- The 1925 silent film, Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by the PGSO will be presented at 8 p.m. Jan. 10 at Vanier Hall. ** February -- Music of the Masters will include Brahms' Violin Concerto and Dvorak's 8th Symphony at 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at Vanier Hall. Performers Serenade is at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at St. Michael's and All Angel's Church ** March -- Life Is A Cabaret will begin at 8 p.m. March 21 at Vanier Hall. ** April -- Music Intima is on at 8 p.m. April 4 at Vanier Hall Carnival of the Animals concert is at 8 p.m. April 18 at Vanier Hall. Carnival for Families is a free concert at 2 p.m. April 19 in Vanier Hall. ** May --The Creation concert will be presented at 8 p.m. May 16 at Vanier Hall. Tickets for the free concerts are available at the PGSO office, Books and Co. and the CNC Book store. There are two options for season's tickets available now at the office, 2880 15th Ave. Tickets for all performances are $405 for adults, $354 for seniors and students and $304 for youth. Tickets for any eight performances are $245 for adults, $214 for seniors and students and $184 for youth. Single performance tickets, which vary in price, are also available.
