SQUAMISH, B.C. - July has been one of the driest on record across southern B.C. and the parched conditions mean campfires will be banned throughout the Squamish Forest District.
The ban takes effect at noon Wednesday and covers the area from just south of Lion's Bay, north along the Sea to Sky Highway to the Joffre Lakes Provincial Park.
It includes Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, as well as surrounding areas such as the Callaghan, Squamish and Elaho River Valleys.
It also covers B.C. Parks and campsites in the Squamish Forest District as well as public and private lands not regulated by municipal or regional burning bylaws.
Fires in stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes are still permitted.
The ban will remain in effect until further notice.
