CARY, N.C. - The parents of a former Edmonton woman killed in North Carolina say they are coping, but right now their primary concern is their young granddaughters.
Nancy Cooper, 34, was last seen by her husband Saturday morning before going for a jog and her body was found Monday less than five kilometres from her home in Cary, N.C.
Garry Rentz, Cooper's father, says his daughter's two little girls, Bella, 4, and Katie, 2, have not yet been told the grim news.
At a news conference in Cary he said the family would like to be sure they handle it in the way that will best help bring the children through the tragedy, and are consulting grief counsellors.
Authorities in Cary have warrants to obtain DNA evidence from Cooper's husband, Bradley Cooper, but have not named him as a suspect.
The family says a service for Nancy Cooper will be held in Edmonton on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.
