LEAMINGTON, Ont. - A group protesting a bird cull in a southwestern Ontario national park says its boycott has led to a steep decline in visitors.
Parks Canada announced this spring it would begin shooting double-crested cormorants in Point Pelee National Park over the next five years in attempt to control the bird's population.
The Peaceful Parks Coalition says 14,000 people have already decided to stay away from the park in protest.
The group says the park, located just south of Leamington, saw a 19 per cent decrease visitors this spring compared with last year.
The group says although tourism is down across the country, most of the park's visitors come from southwestern Ontario.
