BRANTFORD, Ont. - Talks have broken off in efforts to end a 48-day strike by Ontario casino workers in Brantford, Sudbury and at Toronto's Woodbine Raceway.

Negotiations have been held in Barrie for the past 10 days between the Canadian Auto Workers union and the Ontario Lottery Corporation.

But a CAW source tells a Brantford radio station (CKPC) the talks broke off Friday morning.

The source says negotiators for the provincial agency presented a "take it or leave it" offer based on the last one presented.

The union official also says the agency did not make a monetary offer and that wages, split shifts and the use of part-timers remain key issues.

The strike began June 1 and involved about 700 workers in Brantford and about 200 others in Sudbury and Toronto.
