FORESTRY MUSEUM
A new train station for the mini-rail train is being built at the Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum. The station will provide cover for the train during the day and for those waiting to board. "It's been needed for a long time," said guest services manager Shelley Sivell. Money for the project was donated by the New Caledonia Rotary Club. Sivell said the entire project has been completed by volunteers Harold Spensley and Rob Jansen. "They've kind of spearheaded the whole project and taken it from the design and they'll take it right through to completion," she said. The museum has the only mini-rail train running in the city this year since the steam train in Fort George Park was derailed last summer due to a leaking gasket. Sivell said she didn't yet know if this had caused an increase in visitors to the museum. "I can say that we've had a steady stream of visitors, but I'm not sure right at the moment whether it has to do with the Fort George Park train being down," she said. "The day to day feels pretty much on par with last year, maybe a little busier." Sivell said she expects the train station to be completed within the next month.
