A 10-year-old missing persons case has now been solved. Terrace RCMP announced on Monday that the human remains discovered on July 6 by some hikers is that of Larry Vu, also known as Luat Trong Vu, who was 29 when he disappeared in 1998. Although the investigation over the years included the possibility of homicide, Terrace RCMP Staff Sgt. Eric Stubbs told The Citizen that this is no longer the view of investigators. "Foul play is no longer the focus of this investigation," Subbs said. "There is some evidence there that has led us away from that focus." Stubbs said the hikers made their discovery "about 10 kilometres north of Terrace" putting Vu's location in the Kitsumkalum River watershed, in the vicinity of Lean-To Mountain. Clues were discovered there at the time of the disappearance, but Stubbs could not be certain after all these years exactly what spots were part of the official search. "I am not sure about what was done in '98 but they did mount a search at the time in the general area, and they did discover his vehicle at that time but not Mr. Vu," he said. "It was an extensive investigation over the years. A number of members were dedicated to it at different times, and a number of boxes of paper were generated. It is good to at least, for the family now, to have some type of closure for them." The Vu family lived in Terrace at the time but no longer reside in the area. They were originally from Viet Nam.
