SASKATOON - The Saskatchewan Justice Department will not pursue a third trial against a man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on a country road.
Spokeswoman Laur'Lei Silzer says officials decided there would be little likelihood of conviction.
Jeffrey Brown was acquitted at his first trial.
The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal ordered a second one, but a hung jury was unable to reach a decision.
Brown is one of three men charged after the 12-year-old was assaulted on a country road near Tisdale, Sask., in 2001.
One man was twice acquitted at trial, while another was convicted and served two years of house arrest.
