The Prince George Barracudas were pool predators in Richmond on the weekend. Fifteen members of the local swim club attended the long course provincial championships and stroked to a total of 14 gold medals. Barracudas athletes also won three silver medals and four bronze medals. Sterling King was perhaps the most impressive individual performer. He set 10 new club records, one of which was also a new B.C. record for the 11- and 12-year-old age group. King established the new B.C. mark in the 1,500-metre freestyle with a clocking of 17 minutes 53.60 seconds. The old mark was 17:55.74, set by Brent O'Connor in 1996. Danica Ludlow, Grace Ni, Josiah Binnema and Kit Moran also zipped to new club records. Ludlow is the new owner of the 100m freestyle standard for 11- and 12-year-old girls. Her mark of 1:03.87 broke the old record of 1:04.39, held by Kirsty Teit. Ni, in the 13- and 14-year-old girls category, is the new club record-holder in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:09.61. She broke her own club mark of 1:10.34. Binnema set his record in the boys 10-and-under 50m butterfly when he touched the wall in a time of 37.07 seconds. The old mark of 37.71 seconds belonged to Devin Durrand. Moran, finally, bettered his own time in the men's 200m backstroke. He lowered the standard from 2:14.45 to 2:13.41. Connor Moran, James Burg, Andrew Chrobot, Kailey Tress, Jessica Ballantyne, Kyle McMahon, Haley Black, Bailey Hardy, Claire Shrimpton and Kathryn Binnema also represented the Barracudas at provincials. Overall, the Cudas placed 10th of 33 teams.
