OTTAWA - The legendary French singer Charles Aznavour is to be invested as an officer of the Order of Canada.
Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean will make the presentation at her official residence in Quebec City on Saturday.
Aznavour, a "versatile and passionate" singer, composer and actor, is described by Jean as a humanitarian and "an ambassador of the French language" with a deep attachment to Canada.
The diminutive singer-songwriter is known for his unique tenor voice, described as clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and soulful low notes.
Over his 60-year career, he has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1,000 songs and sold well over 100 million records
A statement from the Governor General's office says Aznavour has "helped establish important cultural ties between French-speaking communities in Canada and other countries."
