VICTORIA - The B.C. government is sending 15 fire-management experts to northern California, where wildfires have ravaged the scenic coastal area and forced people from their homes.
Forests Minister Pat Bell says the province is pleased to help California with its challenging fire situation.
He's also warning British Columbians to play it safe at home when camping or burning debris as the province moves into the riskiest part of its fire season.
B.C. fire specialists will be working for up to two weeks in California, where more than 225,000 hectares have been blackened, 36 homes destroyed and 9,000 others under threat.
In B.C., provincial fire crews have responded to 661 fires throughout since April, more than half of them caused by human activity.
The B.C. Forest Service current rates the provincial fire danger generally as low to moderate but high to extreme in some areas.
The Forests Ministry says there are enough resources in the province if fire activity should grow and the personnel loaned to California can be recalled at any time.
