ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador government is contributing $1.5 million toward Canadian athletes and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.

The province joins Manitoba and Ontario as members of a program that allows jurisdictions outside of British Columbia to be involved in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams says the province's culture and heritage will be promoted to a global audience during the games.

Williams says there will be a so-called Newfoundland and Labrador Day held during the games, with activities also planned throughout the province.
